Evening settled upon us as the sun began to set
Beyond the towering Carolina pines.
I basked in the whisper of a passing zephyr,
Enthralled by the song of a few crickets,
Just awakening to welcome the day’s end.
The western sky was awash in brazen
Brush strokes of indigo, crimson, tangerine, and saffron.
The aroma of magnolia blossoms and
Freshly mown wet grass tickled my nose
Filling me with exquisite delight.
A fox emerged from the nearby pines
Prancing across the fairway like a child
On the way to play with friends in the park.
She stopped for a moment and glanced at me
As if to welcome me to her neighborhood.
She turned and watched dad for a moment
Standing further up the fairway
A short distance from where I stood,
Then she looked back to me
As if to wish me a pleasant evening
And pranced away!
We both smiled.
