The morning air was crisp
For the first time in quite some time.
The first hint of amber appeared
On a few leaves of my maple trees.
My bare feet ached delightfully
From the cold wet grass underfoot
As I sipped my first cup of coffee
Strolling leisurely about my garden.
Soon the aroma of damp fallen leaves
Will adorn the autumn breezes
With their sweet perfume!
In the midst of a sea of
Withering and wilting flora,
Three small asters have erupted
In a symphony of lavender and fuchsia!
I must remember to plant more of those
When next spring arrives.
The sun began to take the edge
Off the chill as I took another sip.
Perhaps later today when I finally venture forth
I’ll get a pumpkin spice blend,
Or some butternut squash to go with dinner,
Or some Macintosh apples to snack on
Like M and I did that day in the orchard.
I love all things autumn,
Except of course for the impending return of
Shoes, long pants and jackets!
