FIRST SNOW
I etched snowflakes in the frost
That had formed on my window overnight,
As I gazed out at the young children
In red and green stocking caps
Fluffy blue mittens, long flowing
Plaid and checked scarves
Blowing in the wind, and heavy
Winter coats that made them move
Like plump colorful snowmen,
Laughing, singing and playing in the field
Making angels in the first snow,
And for a moment I was one of them.
