THE RUMBLE OF TRAINS
The rumble of trains on distant tracks
Seems to carry further late at night than during
The hectic scat about of the daylight hours,
And more so on warm humid summer evenings
Then on snowy nights in the dead of winter.
I am nearly always awake at night
Alone with my thoughts and
The muffled late evening sounds,
Of a city now mostly asleep.
If I’m lucky and the weather willing
A most welcome refreshing breeze
Will saunter through my bedroom window
Finding me in my listening chair.
The two A.M. seems to waltz on by
Elegantly and softly, in no great hurry,
The four A.M. dances the Rumba
As it rushes by with exuberance and style.
I love the music of rolling steel wheels
Dancing in the distance on iron tracks.
I love the night symphony,
The refreshing breezes,
And the wanderings.
